Pezeshkian: Gas Deal with Turkmenistan Positions Iran as Energy Hub
WANA (Aug 29) – Masoud Pezeshkian described the gas agreement with Turkmenistan as a strategic step toward making Iran a regional gas hub. He emphasized that the agreements between the two nations would be closely monitored to ensure implementation.
In a joint meeting between high-ranking officials from Iran and Turkmenistan, Pezeshkian highlighted the deep-rooted and historical ties between the two countries, which provide a strong foundation for expanding cooperation. He reaffirmed Iran’s commitment to overcoming challenges in order to enhance bilateral relations.
Iran’s Foreign Minister, Abbas Araghchi, also spoke on the strong relations and shared positions of Iran and Turkmenistan on regional and international issues.
He described the border between the two countries as one of the most secure borders of the Islamic Republic of Iran and emphasized the importance of utilizing border capacities for mutual benefit. Araghchi also stressed the need for joint cooperation to help Afghanistan overcome its challenges.
Key topics discussed in the meeting included energy cooperation, transit, electricity, gas and petrochemical projects, technical and engineering services, the goal of transiting 20 million tons of goods, visa facilitation, and enhancing collaboration in ports, maritime, and rail transport.
Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedow, the National Leader of Turkmenistan, expressed satisfaction with the level of regional and international cooperation between Tehran and Ashgabat.
He reaffirmed Turkmenistan’s commitment to supporting Iran’s international initiatives and stressed the importance of developing security cooperation and economic relations, including in the Caspian Sea region.
