WANA (Oct 24) – During his visit to Russia, Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian met with Chinese President Xi Jinping to discuss enhancing bilateral relations and addressing regional crises. Pezeshkian emphasized the need for an immediate ceasefire to reduce tensions, stating, “China is a friend and our most important trading partner. Together, we can stand against the hegemony of Western countries.”

In another part of his remarks, Pezeshkian noted that the unconditional support of the U.S. and some Western countries for the Israeli regime poses a significant threat to peace in the region. He accused the regime of violating all red lines and demonstrated a lack of adherence to humanitarian and legal principles by killing innocent civilians.

He further stated, “Despite having the legitimate right to defend ourselves against violations of our national sovereignty and the assassination of our official guest in Tehran by the Israeli regime, the Islamic Republic of Iran chose to forego this right for the sake of peace in the region and to establish a ceasefire in Gaza. However, we have seen that the Zionists have become more emboldened in their crimes instead of pursuing peace, even extending their actions to Lebanon.”

Pezeshkian emphasized that the Islamic Republic of Iran does not view war as beneficial for anyone and is not seeking conflict. Nevertheless, he warned that any aggression against Iran would be met with a strong and decisive response.

In the meeting, President Xi Jinping expressed readiness to deepen relations with the Islamic Republic of Iran and stressed the need for strengthening mutual trust. He stated, “Friendly relations with Iran are valuable to us, and we are prepared to defend our shared interests.” He added that this was their first meeting and expressed optimism about expanding their cooperation and relations.

Xi Jinping acknowledged the constructive interactions between the two countries on regional and international levels, noting that Iran and China could collaborate effectively in various fields, including governance, economic, cultural, and military issues. He announced that arrangements for a new phase of cooperation between the two countries have been established.

Additionally, Xi described the current situation and rising tensions in the region as very concerning and reiterated that an immediate ceasefire is essential for reducing these tensions. He expressed confidence that “our Iranian friends will take appropriate measures to establish peace and stability in the region” and emphasized the need to prevent the escalation of conflicts.
