Pressure Tactics Against Iran Are Illegal and Illegitimate
WANA (Feb 25) – Iran’s Foreign Minister reaffirmed the country’s commitment to its peaceful nuclear obligations and denounced pressure-based approaches against Tehran as “illegal and illegitimate.”
During his visit to Geneva for the Disarmament Conference and the UN Human Rights Council sessions, the Iranian Foreign Minister met with UN Secretary-General António Guterres this morning to discuss regional and international developments.
Emphasizing the need to uphold the principles of the UN Charter and the rule of law at the international level, the minister expressed concern over ongoing global and regional trends. He particularly condemned Israel’s continued occupation and aggressions in the West Bank, as well as its attacks on Lebanon and Syria.
Calling for firm international opposition to colonial efforts to erase Palestine—such as forced displacement in Gaza and the annexation of the West Bank—he stressed the need to hold Israel accountable for its crimes against Palestinians.
The minister also underlined the UN Secretary-General’s role in safeguarding the rights and obligations of nations and preventing the misuse of UN Security Council mechanisms by certain actors.
For his part, Secretary-General Guterres highlighted the importance of multilateralism and adherence to the UN Charter and international law. He described the situation in West Asia as highly sensitive and stressed the urgency of ensuring Palestinian rights and preventing the forced displacement of Gaza’s population.
Guterres also called for continued dialogue between Iran and other relevant countries regarding the nuclear issue.
