WANA (Feb 18) – According to the public relations office of the Ice Hockey Association of the Ski and Winter Sports Federation of Iran, the final stages of hiring the prominent Russian coach, Dmitry Mikhaylov, to lead Iran’s national ice hockey team in the IIHF World Championship Division 4, which will be held in Armenia, have been completed.

Dmitry Mikhaylov is one of the most experienced and well-known coaches in the world of ice hockey. In addition to his extensive experience, he has a background in coaching various national teams in Russia and currently serves as the coach of Russia’s Under-18 national team.

Mikhaylov has played a significant and influential role in developing young talents and leading the team toward international success by utilizing his knowledge and modern strategies.

He has also played as a player for prestigious Russian and European teams. Additionally, he was a member of Russia’s national youth teams and represented the country in international competitions.

His collaboration with various teams in Europe and his outstanding achievements in international tournaments highlight his managerial strength and capabilities in hockey.

Now, with his recruitment, Iran’s national ice hockey team hopes to leverage Dmitry Mikhaylov’s experience and skills. Given the uneven competition with teams from former Soviet republics such as Uzbekistan and Armenia, which benefit from Russian players, as well as teams like Kuwait, which has recruited six European and Russian players for its national team, Iran aims to be a worthy representative in this major international event—despite relying solely on Iranian-born players trained domestically in just the past five years.
