Saudi Ambassador Seeks Iran Cooperation for 2034 World Cup
WANA (Dec 25) – Saudi Arabia’s ambassador to Iran, Abdullah bin Saud Al-Anzi, met with Iran’s Minister of Sports and Youth, Ahmad Donyamali, expressing interest in joint cooperation between the two nations as Saudi Arabia prepares to host the 2034 FIFA World Cup.
During the meeting at the Ministry of Sports and Youth, Donyamali welcomed the Saudi ambassador, wished health and prosperity for the Saudi people, and emphasized Iran’s readiness for enhanced collaboration in shared areas of interest. “The President has stressed the importance of strengthening ties with Saudi Arabia, particularly in sports and youth affairs. It is part of my mandate to foster greater cooperation in these fields,” he stated.
Highlighting Saudi Arabia’s upcoming hosting of the Islamic Solidarity Games next year, Donyamali said Iran plans to participate with a strong delegation, underlining the importance of sports and youth initiatives in boosting bilateral ties. He also pointed out shared concerns between the two nations regarding youth issues, expressing hope that deepened relations could address these challenges.
Donyamali further noted that stronger ties between Iran and Saudi Arabia would enhance regional security. He extended a formal invitation to Saudi Arabia’s Minister of Sports, stating, “We hope to host him before the Islamic Solidarity Games.” He also proposed a friendly football match between the national teams of Iran and Saudi Arabia during FIFA international match days.
Ambassador Al-Anzi, expressing gratitude for the warm reception, praised the potential for sports, particularly football, to strengthen bilateral relations. “Developing relations with Iran is of significant importance to Saudi Arabia,” he affirmed, delivering the greetings of Saudi Arabia’s Minister of Sports and echoing shared aspirations for youth collaboration.
The ambassador emphasized the importance of engaging in high-level discussions ahead of Saudi Arabia’s World Cup hosting, saying, “Iran is a key participant in the competition, and we are eager to explore opportunities for joint cooperation leading up to the event.”
The meeting underscored both nations’ commitment to fostering ties in sports and youth development as part of their broader efforts to strengthen regional cooperation.
