WANA (Sep 08) – Recently, a new wave of claims has emerged online regarding widespread access to Starlink satellite internet in Iran.

A group of social media users has shared content suggesting that Starlink internet is extensively operational in Iran, with many people benefiting from it. Among these claims, maps from websites like satellite maps have been circulated, purporting to show Starlink users in Iran.

These maps, especially those displayed as point plots, mark green points as active users and red points as pre-registered applicants. However, these maps do not provide accurate information about user connectivity to Starlink. The website mentioned merely shows the positions of satellites in Earth’s orbit and does not have access to user information.

Furthermore, according to international regulations, the use of satellite internet in any country must adhere to that country’s domestic regulations and laws, particularly concerning landing rights. Therefore, widespread activation of Starlink in Iran, without consideration of these regulations, is highly unlikely.

Another point of contention is that these maps are claimed to be sourced from the official Starlink website. However, a closer examination reveals that the website clearly states it has no connection to Starlink or SpaceX. Consequently, the information these maps provide cannot be deemed reliable or credible, as Starlink solely holds accurate user data.

In conclusion, based on available evidence and relevant regulations, the recent claims about widespread Starlink activation in Iran appear unsubstantiated and require further investigation.
