WANA (Sep 16) – During a meeting with Sunni scholars today, Iran’s Supreme Leader Ayatollah Khamenei emphasized the importance of preserving the identity of the “Islamic Ummah” and warned against forgetting this crucial issue.

The Supreme Leader, addressing the gathering on the occasion of Unity Week and the birth anniversary of the Prophet Muhammad (PBUH), stressed that the identity of the Islamic Ummah transcends national boundaries and geographic limits.

He condemned efforts to make Muslims indifferent to the suffering of fellow Muslims in Gaza and other regions, stating that such attitudes contradict Islamic teachings.

Ayatollah Khamenei urged Sunni scholars to uphold Islamic identity and unity, noting adversaries’ historical attempts to fuel sectarian divisions using ideological, propagandist, and economic tools. He called for resistance against these divisive tactics, emphasizing that unity is not merely a tactic but a Quranic principle.

Despite numerous conspiracies, the Supreme Leader praised the resilience of the Sunni community, citing the sacrifice of 15,000 Sunni martyrs in defence of the nation and numerous Sunni scholars who have died for justice and revolution.

He declared that achieving the dignity of the Islamic Ummah can only be accomplished through unity and stressed the obligation to support the oppressed in Gaza and Palestine, warning that neglecting this duty would be questioned by God.

During the meeting, Sunni scholars from different regions praised the Islamic Republic’s unity-promoting approach and the Supreme Leader’s support for the Sunni community. They emphasized the need to strengthen unity efforts and combat takfiri and extremist movements.
