The Persian Wolf: The World’s Most Beloved Bodybuilder
WANA (May 01) – Hadi Choopan, Iran’s bodybuilding champion, was born in 1987 in the Fars province. In recent years, he has captured widespread attention. In 2022, Choopan made history by bringing home Iran’s first Mr. Olympia gold medal. He then secured second place in both the 2023 and 2024 editions of the competition.
With one gold and two silver medals in Mr. Olympia, Hadi Choopan is now recognized as the most decorated Iranian athlete in the history of bodybuilding. He is currently considered the frontrunner for the Mr. Olympia gold medal in 2025.
Following his runner-up finish at Mr. Olympia 2024, freestyle wrestling champion Hassan Yazdani said, “Brave and hardworking man, you deserved first place. You are always a champion to us and to the Iranian nation.”
Mr. Olympia President Dan Solomon also praised Choopan, stating: “In my opinion, Hadi Choopan is the most dangerous bodybuilder in the world. How many people in global bodybuilding possess the physical weaponry at Hadi Choopan’s level? He is an extraordinary bodybuilder and one of my all-time favorites.”
Choopan’s popularity among Iranians is equally evident. Upon his return to Shiraz, he was welcomed with enthusiasm as crowds chanted, “Hadi, we love you!” even though he had finished in second place. He also won the title of Iran’s Best Male Athlete of 2022 (1401 in the Persian calendar), surpassing football star Mehdi Taremi.
Solomon spoke about Choopan’s immense fanbase, saying: “When certain competitions end and Hadi Choopan doesn’t win, my Instagram page gets flooded with reactions from Iranians. They stand by him with all their hearts. This goes beyond a bodybuilding contest; for his fans, it’s a matter of national and personal pride.”
The Mr. Olympia President added, “There are only a few bodybuilders in the world with the physical capabilities of Hadi Choopan. He is not just an ordinary athlete — he’s a beloved figure both globally and in Iran.”
Beyond his athletic achievements, Hadi Choopan is known for his humility, deep connection to the people, and love for his homeland. He frequently honors his Iranian roots and dedicates his victories to the nation.
Through speeches and social initiatives, he works to inspire youth toward fitness, hard work, and perseverance. His motivational persona and sportsmanship have turned him into more than an athlete — he is a role model for many.
Despite facing numerous challenges, including financial hardship, lack of official support, and visa difficulties for international competitions, Choopan never gave up, and he calls himself the “Iranian Wolf” and believes that he will never be tamed by life or its challenges.
With unmatched determination, he trained rigorously and benefited from the guidance of seasoned coaches such as Hany Rambod, one of the most renowned names in bodybuilding coaching.
