U.S. Justice Department Charges Two Iranians in Connection with Drone Attack in Jordan
WANA (Dec 17) – The U.S. Department of Justice has charged two Iranian nationals in connection with a drone attack on a U.S. military base in Jordan several months ago.
According to the U.S. Justice Department, the two individuals, aged 42 and 38, are accused of attempting to export electronic components from the United States to Iran. One of the individuals is an Iranian-American citizen, Mehdi Sadeghi, living in Massachusetts, who appeared in court for the first time on Monday.
The second individual, Mohammad Abedini, has been charged with allegedly providing material support to the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) and was arrested on Monday in Italy.
The U.S. Department of Justice’s statement claims that the two individuals tried to circumvent U.S. sanctions by sending American-made technologies from a microelectronics company in Massachusetts to Iran. However, Iran has denied any involvement in the attack.
The White House has also accused the Iraqi Islamic resistance group of being behind this drone attack on a U.S. military base in Jordan.
The drone attack targeted a U.S. military facility known as “Tower 22” in the Rukban region of northeastern Jordan in January 2024. The assault resulted in the deaths of three U.S. soldiers and injuries to more than 30 others.
