WANA (May 03) – The UK Foreign Secretary David Lammy claimed in a post on the social media platform X that his country is facing threats from Iran and Russia, but emphasized that the Government Communications Headquarters (GCHQ) is responsible for countering them.

GCHQ is an intelligence and security organization tasked with electronic surveillance and providing secure information to the UK’s armed forces and government. Although it is not part of the Foreign Office, its responsibility falls under the Foreign Secretary.

Lammy wrote: “The Government Communications Headquarters sits at the heart of our national security. As our adversaries seek to undermine us, GCHQ’s expertise is countering threats from Russia and Iran behind the scenes to keep Britain safe at home and abroad.”

He went on to mention his recent visit with the head and staff of the agency, whom he described as those who, according to him, safeguard the nation’s security, calling the meeting a great honor.

Last week, the British Foreign Secretary also stated in a message that he had spoken with Marco Rubio, his American counterpart, about the need for a ceasefire and lasting peace in the war in Ukraine, as well as Iran’s nuclear program.
