Velayati Warns Turkey, Criticizes U.S. and Israel
WANA (Mar 04) – The senior advisor to Iran’s Supreme Leader on international affairs emphasized that “Iran will never remain silent in the face of baseless rhetoric” and warned Turkey that if some in the country believe they can weaken Iran’s position in the region by repeating incorrect stances under foreign influence, they are gravely mistaken.
Iran’s Support for the Resistance Continues
Ali Akbar Velayati, referring to the funeral of Sayyed Hassan Nasrallah in Beirut, reaffirmed the continuation of the resistance path in Lebanon and Palestine. He criticized former U.S. President Donald Trump’s policies supporting the Israeli regime, calling them ineffective.
He described Trump’s plan for the forced displacement of Gazans as “thoughtless” and warned of Israeli efforts to divide Syria.
Hezbollah Remains Strong
In response to a question about the international impact of Sayyed Hassan Nasrallah’s funeral, Velayati stated:
“The significance of this grand ceremony is that Hezbollah remains powerful and retains international influence. Although the martyrdom of Sayyed Hassan Nasrallah and Hashem Safi al-Din was a great loss, it does not mean Hezbollah will be weakened. On the contrary, it will continue the path of resistance with strength, as the majority of the Lebanese people support it and stand by the resistance. We will see this manifest in the future.”
Trump’s Support for Israel Will Continue Biden’s Policies
Regarding the future of the Lebanese and Palestinian resistance under Trump’s full-fledged support for Israel, Velayati said:
“Trump’s backing of the Zionist regime is merely a continuation of Biden’s policies. He can do no more than what has already been done. The disputes between the U.S. and Europe will weaken their ability to incite conflicts in the Middle East. After the Al-Aqsa Flood operation and the global support for Palestine, along with the severe damage inflicted on the reputation of the child-killing regime, the resistance axis has gained more confidence despite the setbacks it has endured.”
Trump is an Unusual and Thoughtless Man
When asked about Trump’s controversial plan for the forced displacement of Gaza’s population, which has faced strong resistance from Palestinian groups and even concerned countries like Egypt, Jordan, and Saudi Arabia, Velayati responded:
“Trump is an unusual and thoughtless man. He wants to present himself as a fearsome figure on the world stage. His words are not reliable, and even he knows it. These statements are nothing more than aimless and futile bravado.”
The Syrian People Must Remain Vigilant
Regarding the future of Syria, given the presence of multiple armed groups governing different regions, Velayati said:
“It is too soon to predict Syria’s future, but current indications suggest that the groundwork for its division has been laid. Various groups—including the Kurds, Alawites, ISIS, and Tahrir al-Sham—are present, and the threat of civil war looms at any moment. Moreover, the Zionist regime has occupied part of Syria, while the U.S. maintains a presence there, increasing the likelihood of partition.
Recently, the Israeli foreign minister held a meeting with the European Union and stated that Syria should be divided along ethnic and sectarian lines. These external forces seek Syria’s fragmentation, and its people must remain vigilant.”
He emphasized that the Syrian people are honorable and patriotic, noting their longstanding support for Palestine.
“If the Syrian people or their legitimate government seek assistance, we will help them as we have in the past.”
Europe Will Ultimately Surrender to the U.S.
Commenting on rising tensions between the U.S. and Europe, particularly regarding Ukraine, Velayati said:
“I believe this is one of the worst periods for Europe since the signing of the North Atlantic Treaty (NATO) in 1949. Trump’s stance in favor of Russia in the Ukraine war is costly for European nations, especially the UK, which has long competed with Russia and sees itself as Europe’s leader while fearing the collapse of its colonial hegemony.”
He argued that Europe’s dependency on the U.S. has led to its current predicament and ultimately, Europe will submit to Washington. He also predicted political transformations and realignments within Europe, potentially leading to the EU’s disintegration.
The U.S. Seeks to Establish an Empire in the Western Hemisphere
When asked why Trump sides with Russia in the Ukraine war and whether economic interests are the main reason, Velayati responded:
“The U.S. aims to create an empire in the Western Hemisphere, stretching from Canada to Panama and Latin America. This is not a new idea—President George W. Bush once talked about annexing Canada, and even earlier, James Monroe made similar claims in 1823. Trump simply wants to complete these plans and dominate the entire Western Hemisphere.
At the same time, he seeks to align countries like Russia with the U.S. to avoid disruptions to his agenda. However, in the Eastern Hemisphere, China, Iran, and even Saudi Arabia play crucial roles and will not easily submit to U.S. dominance.”
Turkish Officials Should Avoid Repeating Baseless Allegations Against Iran
Regarding recent remarks by Turkey’s foreign minister, Velayati stressed:
“The Islamic Republic of Iran will not allow any country to damage deep-rooted regional relations with reckless statements. Iran has always followed a policy of mutual respect and non-interference in other countries’ internal affairs. Therefore, we expect Turkish officials to observe diplomatic decorum and refrain from repeating baseless allegations. Iran is a powerful nation with an ancient civilization that has always worked for regional security and cooperation.
Some Turkish officials must understand that repeating false and interventionist claims does nothing to improve bilateral relations.”
He warned Turkey that if certain individuals in the country believe they can weaken Iran’s regional position by echoing misguided narratives influenced by foreign powers, they are gravely mistaken.
“History has shown that Iran remains steadfast in its principles and will respond appropriately to any disrespect. Iran-Turkey relations are based on neighborly ties and shared interests, and Turkish officials should avoid statements that could harm these relations. The Islamic Republic of Iran is open to dialogue and cooperation, but it will never remain silent in the face of baseless rhetoric.”
