WANA (Aug 27) – John Kirby, the White House National Security Council spokesperson, responded to recent statements by Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi, asserting that the U.S. is prepared to defend Israel and its forces in the region while closely monitoring any potential large-scale attacks from Iran.

This response follows Araghchi’s declaration on August 26 on X (formerly Twitter), where he stated that Iran’s reaction to what he called the “terrorist act by Israeli regime” in Tehran would be both inevitable and calculated. Araghchi also noted that while Iran does not seek to escalate tensions, it is not afraid of doing so.

In light of these comments, Kirby announced that the United States has deployed two aircraft carriers to the Middle East and has extensive regional air and ground capabilities. This military readiness is aimed at preventing further escalation of conflicts and more severe attacks from Iran.

The primary focus of the U.S. is to facilitate a ceasefire agreement in Cairo aimed at halting the conflict for at least six weeks to allow for the release of hostages and the delivery of humanitarian aid to Gaza.

Meanwhile, on August 25, Hezbollah Lebanon completed the first phase of its response to the assassination of its jihadist commander, Fouad Shukr. The group targeted 11 Israeli military positions in a move closely monitored by the White House, prompting American officials to issue warnings.

The National Security Council spokesperson also indicated that Iran has yet to show any willingness to follow through on its threats against Israel. The U.S. has been sending consistent, firm messages to Iran to deter any military action against Tel Aviv.
