WANA (July 12) – A senior official of the U.S. National Security Council stated that Iran’s centrifuges are spinning, and the U.S. is trying to prevent Iran from acquiring nuclear weapons through diplomatic means.

John Kirby, the Strategic Communications Coordinator at the U.S. National Security Council, said that the United States prefers a negotiated solution to resolve the nuclear dispute with Iran.

Speaking on the sidelines of the NATO summit in Washington, Kirby said: “We know that Iran’s centrifuges are spinning. President Joe Biden has made it clear that we will not allow Iran to acquire nuclear weapons. It is evident that we prefer to achieve this goal through diplomacy.”

Kirby made these remarks despite the media’s acknowledgment that Iran has repeatedly stated it is not pursuing the development of nuclear weapons and considers it against its general policies.

The American official, while claiming that the U.S. is willing to negotiate, noted that there is currently no such diplomatic path, stating: “I don’t see a path to negotiations on the nuclear agreement in the near future.”

Kirby also claimed that Washington does not expect any change in Tehran’s nuclear behavior or willingness to negotiate with the election of Masoud Pezeshkian as the President of the Islamic Republic of Iran.
