WANA (May 19) – Iran’s Deputy Foreign Minister for Political Affairs stated that Iran will not back down on uranium enrichment, reaffirming that the country’s position on the issue has been clearly and repeatedly expressed.

Majid Takht-Ravanchi, responding to recent remarks by Steve Witkoff, the U.S. Special Representative for the Middle East, and Marco Rubio, the U.S. Secretary of State, said: “Our stance on enrichment is clear. We have declared many times that uranium enrichment is a national achievement—an accomplishment realized by our own scientists and one that has been ongoing for years.”

Emphasizing Iran’s firm position, he added: “We will not and have never compromised on uranium enrichment. From the beginning, we made it clear that if their position is ‘zero enrichment,’ then it’s obvious that no progress will be made.”

He further noted that while Iran has always maintained that negotiations should take place at the negotiation table, some U.S. officials prefer to speak through the media. “Naturally, we also express our views and state our position publicly,” he said.

Takht-Ravanchi added that Iran’s position on this matter has been conveyed in a straightforward and transparent manner: “The other parties are fully aware of what we’re saying and the reasons behind our stance.”

Elsewhere in his remarks, he stressed: “Over the years, it has become clear that we cannot rely on anyone else. We have the capability, and we’ve pursued enrichment based on the country’s needs—and we will continue to do so.”
