What Matters Is Washington’s Actions, Not the U.S. Elections
WANA (Nov 11) – The spokesperson for Iran’s Foreign Ministry emphasized that Washington’s policies, rather than election outcomes, are what truly impact Iran. Over the past four years, U.S. policy towards Iran has remained consistently hostile, with the U.S. government failing to fulfill the promises it made during the election regarding the JCPOA and other issues.
Ismail Baqaei, spokesperson for the Ministry, condemned recent terrorist attacks in Sistan and Baluchestan at his weekly press briefing. He asserted that such attacks would not weaken the resolve of Iranian border communities to defend their nation.
Baqaei also noted that World Science Day, celebrated recently, should prompt reflection on the dangers of science used to fuel war. Israel, he stated, has leveraged science and technology to further its policies of genocide against Palestinians, an act he described as a war crime.
The United Nations has reported that 70% of the casualties in Gaza are women and children, with the WHO warning of an impending famine in the region. The Israeli bombardment of Lebanon also continues, and Iran remains firm in its support for resistance in Palestine and Lebanon.
He further commented on recent diplomatic efforts: Senior Iranian and Pakistani officials discussed bilateral relations, border security, energy, and trade in Islamabad, while Iraq’s National Security Advisor visited Tehran, and Saudi Arabia’s Chief of Staff held meetings in Iran to discuss regional cooperation.
Baqaei also highlighted an upcoming meeting in Riyadh, requested by Iran and other countries, hoping it will initiate efforts to curb Israeli hostilities.
Actions, Not Elections, Define U.S. Influence
Baqaei suggested that while U.S. voting patterns are an internal issue, it’s Washington’s actions in the Middle East that matter most to Iran. Over the past four years, the U.S. has not only failed to keep its electoral promises regarding the JCPOA but also enabled Israel’s actions in Gaza and Lebanon. The continuous crimes of the Israeli regime, he added, persist primarily due to U.S. military support and its opposition to international resolutions against Israel.
Baqaei stressed that the international community expects the U.S. to help halt Israel’s acts of genocide.
Addressing Foreign Nationals and Diplomatic Relations
On the topic of foreign nationals in Iran, he noted that the Interior Ministry is tasked with their regulation, ensuring lawful entry. He also announced that Iran has assigned a special envoy to West Asia to monitor evolving situations in Lebanon, especially following the injury of Iran’s ambassador in Beirut.
In Iraq, Baqaei condemned Israel’s use of Iraqi airspace under U.S. control as a violation of sovereignty, noting that Iraq has formally protested to the UN. This, he claimed, was a joint exploitation by the U.S. and Israel.
Regarding accusations of arms support for Russia, Baqaei cited Ukrainian President Zelensky’s recent remarks that Ukraine lacks evidence of such support from Iran. He criticized these baseless claims as grounds for European sanctions, which harm Iranian civilians, and questioned Ukraine’s motives for prolonging the conflict, stressing that Iran has always sought an end to the Ukraine crisis.
Calls for International Awareness on Israeli Threats
Baqaei noted the high potential within the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) to raise awareness about Israeli threats, adding that while the UN Security Council has recently been ineffective, the OIC offers Islamic countries a platform for unity.
Allegations of Hostile Intentions Toward U.S. Leaders
Baqaei dismissed recent U.S. claims that Iran intends to harm American leaders as unfounded, viewing them as part of a longstanding tactic to undermine regional relations. This, he explained, is a deliberate attempt to complicate future diplomatic efforts.
Maintaining a Consistent Position on Nuclear Policy
Baqaei expressed hope that the IAEA will conduct its work independently, adding that Iran, as an NPT member, remains committed to its obligations and hopes the agency will maintain professionalism. He reiterated Iran’s clear stance against nuclear arms, emphasizing that this position is both policy-driven and religiously supported.
The World’s Demand: End the Genocide in Gaza
Baqaei stressed that the global community demands an end to the genocide in Gaza and respects Palestinian rights. He urged adherence to international law to prevent further atrocities by Israel.
Iran’s Relationship with Germany and Other European Nations
Baqaei assured that Iran continues to engage diplomatically with Germany, emphasizing the need to safeguard consular services for Iranians living there. He further acknowledged Iran’s longstanding but fluctuating relations with European countries, advocating a pragmatic approach based on national interests.
Ongoing Dialogue Between Iran and Saudi Arabia
Regarding the recent visit of a Saudi military official, Baqaei described the two countries’ dialogue as steady and constructive, with a shared vision for strengthening regional stability and security.
Historical Reflection on German Policy
Commenting on Germany’s recent anti-Semitism legislation, Baqaei expressed concerns about its potential misuse, suggesting that while it is ostensibly intended to protect against anti-Semitism, it could be exploited to silence criticism of Israeli policies. He urged a historical understanding of anti-Semitism’s roots, affirming Iran’s respect for all religions.
Iran’s Stance on Threats Against Syria
Responding to recent Israeli threats to assassinate Syrian President Bashar al-Assad, Baqaei condemned such threats as illegal and morally reprehensible, reflecting the Israeli regime’s disregard for international law. He called on the global community to respond collectively to this dangerous escalation.
