White House: U.S. President Has Made His Stance on Iran Clear
WANA (Feb 01) – During a press conference in Washington, D.C., Leavitt was asked by a reporter about U.S. president Trump’s policy on Iran. She responded: “I believe the president has made his stance on Iran very clear.”
Trump had previously claimed that by the end of his first term, he was “about a week away” from reaching an agreement with Iran. He still believes he can secure a deal that would “absolutely ensure” Iran does not obtain nuclear weapons.
“I will never allow Iran to acquire nuclear weapons,” U.S. President Trump asserted, adding that “there are ways to be absolutely certain about this—if you have a deal, you must verify it ten times over.”
He further warned that if Iran were to obtain nuclear weapons, other nations would seek to follow suit, leading to what he described as a global “catastrophe.”
Iran, however, has repeatedly stated that nuclear weapons have no place in its defense doctrine.
Leavitt also made hostile remarks regarding regional resistance groups. Referring to negotiations over a Gaza ceasefire, she said:
“While ceasefire talks were ongoing—and we know they have been implemented—the U.S. president made it clear that if progress was not made, Hamas and Iran-backed terrorists would pay the price. And shortly after, that’s exactly what happened.”
Her comments come as Israeli officials have admitted they were forced to agree to a ceasefire and a prisoner exchange with Palestinian resistance groups due to their failure to achieve their objectives or secure the release of Israeli hostages.
