Iran Condemns Terrorism in Syria, Warns of Takfiri Resurgence
WANA (Nov 28) – The spokesperson for Iran’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Esmaeil Baghaei, expressed serious concerns over recent developments in Syria, warning against the resurgence of Takfiri terrorist groups. He urged coordinated and decisive action to prevent the spread of terrorism in the region.
In a statement on Thursday night, Esmaeil Baghaei strongly condemned all forms of terrorism and described the recent activities of terrorist groups in Syria as part of a “malicious plan” orchestrated by the U.S. and the “terrorist regime” to destabilize West Asia.
He emphasized the need for vigilance and coordination among regional countries, especially Syria’s neighbors, to thwart what he called a dangerous conspiracy.
Baghaei highlighted that under existing agreements among the Astana Process guarantor states (Iran, Turkey, and Russia), areas surrounding Aleppo and Idlib are designated as de-escalation zones. He criticized terrorist attacks in these areas as blatant violations of these agreements, jeopardizing the positive outcomes of the Astana peace process.
The spokesperson also reminded the international community of its shared responsibility to combat terrorism. He warned that any delay in addressing terrorist activities in Syria could undermine years of progress in the fight against terrorism, plunging the region into a new cycle of insecurity and instability.
Baghaei paid tribute to those who have sacrificed their lives over the past 14 years to defend the region’s security and human dignity against Takfiri terrorism.
He also offered condolences on the martyrdom of senior Iranian military advisor Brigadier General Kiumars (Hashem) Pourhashemi, who was killed in clashes with terrorist groups near Aleppo. Baghaei reaffirmed Iran’s continued support for the Syrian government and people in their efforts to restore security and stability to the country.
