WANA (Apr 29) – Iran’s Foreign Ministry Spokesperson Esmaeil Baghaei has called for the establishment of a mechanism to uncover the truth and raise public awareness in Iran and globally regarding Germany’s role in the production of chemical weapons used by Saddam Hussein’s regime during the Iran-Iraq war.

On his personal X (formerly known as Twitter) account, Baghaei wrote: “29 April marks the anniversary of the entry into force of the Chemical Weapons Convention.

For the Iranian nation, this day symbolizes the global consensus on preventing the recurrence of atrocities committed through the use of Chemical Weapons —atrocities that were perpetrated against Iranian soldiers and civilians during the Iraq-Iran imposed war.

Revealing the truth is the prerequisite for the realization of justice. Shedding light on the role of those who supplied materials and technologies used in Saddam’s chemical weapons program remains a serious item on the Foreign Ministry’s agenda.

Iran’s demand that Germany establish a mechanism to uncover the truth and inform both Iranian and international public opinion about its role in arming Iraq with chemical weapons is a direct expression of that pursuit.”
