Iran’s Annual Report on Human Rights Violations in the US and UK
WANA (Dec 15) – The main highlights of the annual report by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Islamic Republic of Iran on human rights violations by the U.S. and the U.K. were presented during a meeting attended by Dr. Hakimi, Advisor to the Chief Justice and Deputy Judicial Head of the Human Rights Headquarters; Isa Kameli, Director-General for the Americas; and Mohsen Emadi, Assistant Director-General for Human Rights and Women’s Affairs at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, alongside foreign policy journalists.
Under Article 3 of the law titled “Disclosure of Human Rights Violations by the U.S. and the U.K. in the Contemporary World”, enacted on April 22, 2012, by the Islamic Consultative Assembly, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs is tasked with preparing an annual report on human rights violations in the United States and the United Kingdom.
In compliance with the provisions of this law, the Ministry has prepared two reports for 2024, relying on the latest official documents from United Nations-affiliated human rights organizations and other credible international sources. These reports examine aspects of human rights violations in these countries, both domestically and internationally, focusing particularly on areas such as women’s rights, the treatment of migrants, and systemic racism in the U.S. and the U.K. during the one-year period ending in September 2024.
It is important to note that these reports do not cover all instances of human rights violations by these countries. Instead, they aim to highlight the most documented and significant cases based on available statistics and reports.
Highlights of the U.S. Human Rights Violations Report, 2024
The report emphasizes exposing U.S. hypocrisy in claiming to uphold human rights while neglecting international human rights standards, a duplicity that has adversely affected numerous victims in Iran and other nations.
Throughout 2024, the U.S. continued its anti-human rights actions globally, including its false portrayal as a leader in human rights advocacy. The country has instrumentalized human rights rhetoric to justify interventions and support the Israeli regime’s violations of Palestinian rights. It has systematically committed human rights violations and perpetuated crimes to maintain Israel’s apartheid system. These include the imposition of unilateral coercive measures, arms transfers, and support for terrorist groups.
The U.S.’s unwavering support for Israel and Western governments’ complicity has turned West Asia into one of the most critical regions for human rights violations. These actions particularly target Palestinians, including women and children, amidst the ongoing aggressions of the Israeli regime. This unconditional backing disregards all international laws, undermines the credibility of human rights institutions, and mocks global agreements on human rights.
Highlights of the U.K. Human Rights Violations Report, 2024
The 2024 report also critiques the U.K.’s human rights practices, which remain under scrutiny from UN human rights bodies, the Council of Europe, and other advocates. Systemic racial discrimination remains one of the most frequent human rights violations in the U.K.
One of the most egregious cases of human rights violations by the U.K. relates to its involvement in Palestine. The U.K. has supported the Israeli regime through arms exports, financial aid, and security and technological backing. These actions have facilitated the ongoing denial of Palestinians’ right to self-determination and contributed directly and indirectly to war crimes, crimes against humanity, and acts of genocide in the occupied Palestinian territories.
