Macron Calls for Release of French Nationals Detained in Iran
WANA (Feb 01) – French President Emmanuel Macron has once again accused Tehran of unjustly detaining French nationals and called for their release.
Macron stated on Friday night that two citizens of France have been imprisoned in Iran for 1,000 days, while another has been detained for 842 days. He also announced plans to meet with their families soon.
In a post on his social media account on X, Macron claimed that their detention was “unjust and arbitrary,” without mentioning that they were imprisoned on espionage charges.
The French president concluded by urging Iran to release the three detainees.
Earlier in January, France’s Foreign Ministry had summoned the Iranian ambassador over the same issue.
