No One Can Destroy Iran’s Nuclear Program
WANA (May 12) – Rafael Grossi, Director General of the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA), told an Argentine media outlet that even the most extensive military campaign would not be able to completely destroy Iran’s nuclear infrastructure, and such an act would be disastrous. He emphasized that Iran is a large country and could rebuild its facilities.
Grossi, referring to his conversations with U.S. officials including Steve Witkoff, a representative of Donald Trump, said the IAEA is the only international body with official inspectors present in Iran. He added that despite ongoing inspections, ambiguities remain regarding Iran’s nuclear activities, and Tehran must provide more transparency.
In response to the possibility of an Israeli military strike, Grossi stressed that diplomacy is the only effective path and that persistent efforts toward an agreement are necessary.
Meanwhile, Iran’s Foreign Minister reaffirmed that the country is not seeking nuclear weapons and considers their use religiously forbidden. He reiterated Iran’s insistence on its right to peaceful nuclear energy, warning that the Islamic Republic will not back down from its national rights and that any agreement must be based on mutual respect.
