WANA (Dec 03) – The Director General of Human Rights and Women’s Affairs at the Iranian Ministry of Foreign Affairs described the recent resolution by the European Parliament regarding the situation of women in the Islamic Republic of Iran as rooted in an interfering and entirely political approach by this European body.

Marzieh Afkham, condemning this biased resolution, emphasized the active and leading role of women in Iran’s comprehensive progress. She stated that the clear trend of increasing social participation and the dynamic and impactful presence of women in various social, economic, and political arenas, based on growing statistics and accurate documentation, reflects the realities of contemporary Iranian society. Resolutions of this kind, driven by prejudice, cannot distort or ignore the positive trajectory of women and girls’ participation and activities in the Islamic Republic of Iran.

The Director General of Women’s and Human Rights Affairs further remarked that while global public opinion—particularly in European societies—expresses outrage over their governments’ continued support for a regime accused of crimes against humanity and genocide, especially regarding the staggering toll of women and children killed in Gaza, the European Parliament, which claims to be a symbol of democracy and a reflection of the concerns of European citizens, has chosen to turn a blind eye and deaf ear to public protests against the apartheid regime of Israel’s dark record of violating the rights of the oppressed Palestinian people. Instead, it continues to follow a biased, dualistic, and political agenda.

Referring to the political motives of the initiators and drafters of such unfounded and one-sided resolutions, she stated: “The European Parliament’s deliberate attempt to paint a bleak picture of Iran’s social developments is a misguided and repetitive path. This European body, in order to maintain its credibility and respect for its own people, should instead echo the legitimate demands of European public opinion to condemn and protest against the systematic killing of innocent Palestinian women and children, and pursue the cessation of these crimes and the prosecution of the leaders of the Zionist regime.”

On Thursday, November 28, the European Parliament adopted an anti-Iran resolution. This resolution interfered in Iran’s internal affairs and raised allegations and claims regarding social conditions and the status of women in the country.
