Two Britons Arrested in Kerman for Espionage
WANA (Feb 18) – The spokesperson for Iran’s Judiciary stated that the two British nationals arrested in Kerman were detained in January this year on espionage charges.
The detainees had entered Iran under the guise of tourists and were engaged in collecting information across several provinces under the pretext of conducting research and academic studies.

In this regard, Hojatoleslam wal-Muslimin Hamidi, the head of Kerman’s Judiciary, said that intelligence and security agencies had monitored the individuals and confirmed their connections with multiple institutions linked to foreign intelligence services. Further investigations are ongoing.
The meeting between Hugo Shorter, the British Ambassador, and the two British detainees took place at the Public and Revolutionary Prosecutor’s Office in Kerman following judicial and security coordination.
The meeting was held at the request of the British Ambassador and was approved by judicial authorities in coordination with security agencies.
