UN Chief: Nowruz is a Precious Gift in a Divided World
WANA (Mar 21) – United Nations Secretary-General António Guterres, in his message on the occasion of Nowruz, extended his greetings and emphasized that in our world filled with conflicts, divisions, and strife, Nowruz is a precious gift.
On Friday, local time, Guterres stated: “Nowruz is a celebration of new beginnings. It marks the rebirth of nature, the renewal of hope, and the arrival of spring.”
He highlighted that Nowruz promotes neighborliness, reconciliation, and solidarity across generations and communities. “In our world full of conflicts, divisions, and strife, Nowruz is a valuable gift,” he reiterated.
Guterres stressed that the spirit of Nowruz should guide us forward. “This day should inspire us to bridge divides and strengthen unity,” he said.
“It should serve as a moment to reaffirm our commitment to peace, dialogue, and mutual respect. Nowruz should also remind us to protect our planet and live in harmony with nature.”
“As the world renews itself this spring, let us remember that every new year and every new day is an opportunity for a fresh start—an opportunity to do things differently and to build a better world,” he added.
The UN Secretary-General concluded by extending his best wishes to all who celebrate Nowruz: “May this day bring peace, health, and happiness to all.”
