Iranian Researcher Wins 2025 International Orchid Award
WANA (Jul 13) – An Iranian researcher has been named one of the five final laureates of the 2025 International Orchid Awards, selected from among hundreds of nominees worldwide.
Dr. Ali-Mohammad Sabeghi, former Cultural Counselor of the Islamic Republic of Iran in Beijing, received the award for his extensive contributions to the study of Chinese society and culture.
His achievements include authoring five specialized books on Chinese culture and society, publishing over 60 academic articles, and delivering dozens of lectures on cultural commonalities between Iran and China.
In an interview, Dr. Sabeghi stated that compared to the first edition of the awards, this year’s competition saw a significant rise in professional standards, international impact, and diversity of cultural fields represented by nominees.
The second edition of the International Orchid Awards issued its global call for nominations last winter in eight languages – Chinese, English, French, Spanish, Arabic, Japanese, German, and Russian.
According to the Secretariat of the China International Communications Group (CICG), nearly 300 nomination dossiers were received from 114 recommending institutions.
Of these, 15 were for the Lifetime Honor Award, 61 individuals and four institutions for the Outstanding Achievement Award, and 184 individuals and 13 institutions for the Friendship Ambassador Award.
This year’s five final awardees represent Germany, Nigeria, Iran, Pakistan, and the United States.
Dr. Sabeghi emphasized that this achievement demonstrates Iran’s growing presence in international cultural exchanges and highlights the influential role of Iranian scholars in fostering intercultural dialogue.
This honor is seen as a testament to Iran’s cultural diplomacy on the global stage. At a time when cultural exchange plays an increasingly vital role in international relations, such recognitions are regarded as symbols of a nation’s soft power.
