WANA (May 26) – The Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) announced that its air defense units intercepted three American aircraft that entered Iranian airspace over the Persian Gulf, shooting down an MQ-9 Reaper drone and firing at two other military planes.

 

In an official statement released on Tuesday, the IRGC warned the United States against compromising the current regional truce, stating that it considers the right to cross-border retaliation “legitimate and definitive” in the face of any ceasefire violations by American forces.

 

According to the military communique, IRGC radar and air defense networks detected an MQ-9 Reaper drone, an RQ-4 Global Hawk drone, and an F-35 Lightning II fighter jet violating Iranian sovereign airspace. Following precise intelligence monitoring, air defense units successfully targeted and shot down the MQ-9 Reaper.

 

The statement added that Iranian units also opened fire on the RQ-4 drone and the F-35 fighter jet, forcing both aircraft to retreat and exit Iranian territorial airspace.

 

The IRGC characterized the flight paths as part of continued “interventionalist adventures and aggressive behaviors” by the U.S. military in the region. The statement concluded with a stark warning that any further breaches of the ceasefire agreement would meet immediate countermeasures.
