WANA (Sep 20) – According to the Secretariat of the Supreme National Security Council of Iran, during today’s session chaired by President Masoud Pezeshkian, it was announced that due to the actions of European countries, cooperation with the International Atomic Energy Agency will effectively be suspended. The Ministry of Foreign Affairs was also tasked with continuing its consultations within the framework of the Council’s decisions.

The Secretariat issued this statement on Saturday night, September 20, 2025.

According to the announcement, today the Supreme National Security Council, chaired by President Masoud Pezeshkian, convened to discuss regional developments and what it described as the adventurous policies of Israel. The Council emphasized that the policy of the Islamic Republic of Iran under current circumstances will be to pursue greater cooperation aimed at establishing peace and stability in the region.

The statement added that the Council also reviewed the actions of certain countries on the international stage concerning military operations and sanctions. Among them were what it described as the ill-considered measures of the three European countries regarding Iran’s nuclear issue. Despite Iran’s cooperation with the IAEA and the presentation of proposals to resolve the matter, the steps taken by the European countries will effectively suspend the path of cooperation with the Agency.

It was further stated that the Ministry of Foreign Affairs has been tasked with continuing its consultations in line with the Council’s decisions to safeguard the national interests of the country.

Last night, a resolution on extending the suspension of six UN Security Council resolutions on Iran failed to pass. On August 28, the three European countries had submitted a letter to the Security Council initiating the process of activating the snapback mechanism.
