WANA (July 10) – Nikol Pashinyan, Prime Minister of Armenia, congratulated the newly elected President Masoud Pezeshkian on his election victory in a phone call on Tuesday evening. He expressed hope that the warm and friendly relations between the two countries would continue in the upcoming period, stating that the relationship between Iran and Armenia is based on common interests.

 

He emphasized that the ties between the two nations are not merely those of neighbors, but rather a distinguished relationship that is never influenced by any other factors.

 

In response, Pezeshkian thanked the Armenian Prime Minister for his kind words and congratulations, stating that Armenia holds a significant place among Iran’s neighbors.

 

He noted that relations with Armenia are very important in the framework of the Islamic Republic’s foreign policy, highlighting that although the Iran-Armenia border is short, it represents a border of hope and peaceful coexistence. He assured that Iran’s principled policy towards Armenia is unwavering.

 

The Iranian President-elect reaffirmed that the Islamic Republic of Iran respects the territorial integrity of all countries and opposes any changes to international borders. He expressed support for the peace talks between Armenia and Azerbaijan and conveyed Iran’s readiness to assist in this regard.

 

Pezeshkian also reiterated Iran’s commitment to its obligations with Armenia and its readiness to further develop bilateral relations. He welcomed the Armenian government’s support for the activities of Iranian private sector economic actors in Armenia.
