WANA (June 19) – Alireza Zakani, a candidate for the upcoming elections, has expressed his opinion on foreign policy in the following manner:
We are open to negotiations and welcome them. However, it’s crucial to recognize that the West encompasses not only the United States but also several European nations. While we respect each other, we firmly uphold the influence of the East and consider ourselves a significant power within it.

Our firm red line remains the Zionist regime, which we believe is headed towards destruction.

If America takes a constructive approach and acknowledges its troubled history, there should be no barriers to dialogue.

Zakani, born on March 3, 1966, has served as the mayor of Tehran since 2021 and has been involved in managing social issues in the city since 2023 as an aide to the President of Iran.
He previously served in the Iranian Parliament from 2004 to 2016 and again from 2020 to 2021. Zakani was a presidential candidate in the 2021 election but withdrew in support of Ebrahim Raisi. He is known for his moral politics, moderate stance, and non-radical approach. While he advocates for negotiations with other nations, he prioritizes Iran’s sovereignty and authority.
